In 2023, The Bobby Lees almost called it quits. Music industry hassles, low streaming payouts, and costly tours that barely broke even sidelined the group, until an unlikely supporter brought them back from the brink. Formed in 2018 in Woodstock, New York, by vocalist/guitarist Sam Quartin, The Bobby Lees had a string of lauded releases on labels like Alive and Ipecac, toured with Helmet, and opened for artists like The Chats and Black Lips. But all their acclaim didn’t put them in the black. So the Bobby Lees disappeared, but now…they’re back with their fourth album, New Self, out June 12th via Epitaph Records.
The Bobby Lees’ new material is all out and loud—and it's easy to see why artists like Iggy Pop, Flea, and Henry Rollins have cited the band as a favorite. But it was actually a super fan, actor Jason Momoa, who reached out after the hiatus with an offer to fund the band’s next record.
Thankfully, the band’s sound isn’t lighter—if anything, it’s even heavier, owing to the influence of Rage Against the Machine. Copies of New Self and brand new Bobby Lees merch are now now available for pre-order.
