Julia Cumming’s Anti-Cool Coming Out | Public Record

New York City’s Julia Cumming has been playing shows since she was 13, rocking out in bands like Sunflower Bean, and modeling for brands like Yves Saint Laurent and DKNY. But there’s something she hasn’t done—not until now—and that’s make a solo album. On Friday, April 24, Cumming changed that, releasing her debut solo album, Julia.

Released on CD and two vinyl variants by Partisan Records, best known for artists like Geese, Cigarettes After Sex, and Idles, the album finds Cumming forgoing the psychedelic glam sound of Sunflower Bean in favor of intimate soft rock—the kind of sounds you might expect from Burt Bacharach, Carole King, and Carly Simon.
