After attending Berklee College of Music, Tyler Perry found himself adrift, playing in cover bands and uncertain of a path forward in music. On a whim, he applied for a job in Los Angeles—a city he’d never even been—and after landing the gig, hopped in the car with a couple books by Eckhart Tolle and Alan Watts and headed west, putting his faith in the universe it would work out. Upon arrival, he christened himself Tyler Ballgame and on January 30th, he releases his debut, For the First Time, Again, via storied indie label Rough Trade. He’s released a new single and video to prime to pump: “Matter of Taste.” With its infectious boogie and Tyler’s soulful voice at the fore, it’s a true earworm.
