Mountain Goats Take Us Through the Fire | Music News

John Darnielle’s long running folk rock band The Mountain Goats have announced their 23rd studio album, Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan, out on November 7th.

The announcement comes complete with a new song too,  “Armies of the Lord.”

The title was inspired by dream Darnielle had, in which he named an album Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan. Upon awaking, he teamed fellow Goats, Cameron Ralston, Matt Douglas, and Jon Wurster, as well as guests like The Replacements’ Tommy Stinson, harpist Mikaela Davis, Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda to imagine what that record would actually sound like, using the title as a starting point.

The result is a concept album about a shipwrecked crew and the complications they experience washing up on a remote desert isle. Think Gilligan’s Island, only darker. It’s been a busy time for the Goats. In addition to a 20th Anniversary Abbey Road Studios remaster of the 2005 fan-favorite The Sunset Tree, Darnielle is readying a lyrics collection, 365 Songs Annotated: A Book of Days, out this December.
