Australian genre destroyers King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have pulled their music off Spotify following the revelations that Spotify owner Daniel Ek has heavily invested in Helsing, an AI drone military contractor.
Posting to their Instagram stories, King Gizz said: “Hello friends. A PSA to those unaware: Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invests millions in Al military drone technology. We just removed our music from the platform. Can we put pressure on these Dr. Evil tech bros to do better? Join us on another platform.”
The move comes after a number of bands, including experimental rock band Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu removed their music from the streaming service.
On July 25, King Gizz released a trove of unreleased music called Demos Vol. 7 + Vol. 8—but if you wanna hear it, don’t go clicking your Spotify app; you find find it on Bandcamp and other sites, though the band mentioned you’re free to bootleg if need be.
