Growing up in Australia, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Stu MacKenzie says he wanted to be Elwood Blues. Sometimes he’d even dress up like one-half of The Blues Brothers while busking on weekends.
You can taste a little of that blues bros feel in the band’s video for “Deadstick,” which comes across like Beck or Jake and Elwood if they’d just ingested a massive dose of acid. The jam has us boogying like Jake and Elwood and we’ve been playing it around WASTOIDS HQ non-stop. It’s from the band’s new album Phantom Island, which is out Friday, June 13th.
