2025 Tunes By Japanese Breakfast, Madilyn Mei, Rose City Band & More | Music News

Decoy Deloy is back with this week’s update, featuring five new and upcoming releases to share. But before that: a note of solidarity with those affected by the shocking fires in Los Angeles. The music community is already rallying—check out this link to access a Google Doc gathering up a number of campaigns to help directly support musicians like Zachary Cole Smith of DIIV, WASTOIDS guest Fat Tony, and many more as they rebuild and face uncertain futures

Beyond that, the musical advocacy group MusiCares has set up a relief program as well—visit MusiCares for more info, and we’ll keep you updated on other ways to help as they become none. We love you, Los Angeles.

OK, let’s get into it, because there’s lots of good music on the way.

Rose City Band – Sol y Sambra

Our first highlight: Rose City Band’s Sol Y Sombra—that’s sun and shade in English. Out January 24th, you can get a taste of these psychedelic country jammers with their new song, “Radio Song.” Check it out.

Madilyn Mei – The Bard

Up next, Phoenix songwriter Madilyn Mei gets medieval on your ass with The Bard. Released last fall, this EP of delightful indie pop is coming out on beautiful GOLD NUGGET vinyl on February 7th. Get yours.

Japanese Breakfast – for melancholy brunettes (& sad women)

Up next, a little something for all us sad babes with brown hair…we’re talking about for melancholy brunettes (& Sad Women), the highly anticipated new album from Japanese Breakfast, AKA Michelle Zauner. Following her breakout success with 2021’s Jubilee and her best selling memoir Crying in H Mart, the new album pairs her with producer Blake Mills, who’s worked with everyone from Bob Dylan to Beck and Fiona Apple. It’s out March 21st. Get yours.

Spellling – Portrait of My Heart

And the hits just keep coming: SPELLLING (aka Chrystia Cabral) has announced a new record, Portrait of My Heart, out March 28th via Sacred Bones. Featuring guests from Tori Y Moi, Turnstile, and Zulu, the album presents her boldest songs to date. Get yours.

Buck Gooter – King Kong Lives: Thereminsanity

And to close, one of my favorite groups—Buck Gooter, who drop the insanely titled King Kong Lives: Thereminsanity on April 4. Buck Gooter was formed in 2005 by Terry Turtle and Billy Brett. Turtle tragically passed away in 2019, but Brett continues on his honor. The new album not only features archival recordings from Turtle, but it’s packed with electronic fuzz and gnarly riifs. And how about that cover—that’s right, you guessed it, it’s from the Deadly Prey Gallery. Order yours.
